Project Overview
INGA Ministries is a nonprofit organization supporting communities in Uganda. Through a connection between my engineering partner and one of the organization's founders, we had an opportunity to contribute to its digital presence through a pro-bono website redesign.
The project focused on the homepage: the primary entry point where visitors begin to understand the organization's mission, explore its work, and discover how they can get involved.
While the original website was built using Wix, its template-based structure limited the flexibility available to shape the homepage around the organization's needs. The goal was to create a more intentional, customized experience without expanding the scope into a full redesign of every page.
My Role: Homepage UI/UX Design and Visual Direction
Development: Next.js implementation and domain migration by my engineering partner
Project Type: Pro-Bono Collaboration
Status: Live Website

A Mission Needs a Clear Digital Voice
The Challenge:
A Mission Needs a Clear Digital Voice
The challenge was not simply to make the website look more modern. It was to make the organization's purpose easier to understand.
The existing homepage relied on a generic template structure. Its layout did not provide the flexibility needed to establish a strong visual hierarchy and guide visitors through the organization's story.
For a nonprofit, this matters. Visitors need to understand who the organization supports, what it does, and where they can go to learn more or contribute.
A meaningful mission deserves a digital experience that communicates it clearly.

I focused on redesigning the homepage around a more deliberate content hierarchy.
Rather than treating each section as an isolated block, I approached the page as a connected narrative, from the organization's introduction to its mission, initiatives, and opportunities for support.

A Clearer First Impression
The opening section needed to establish the organization's identity and purpose quickly, helping visitors understand what the organization stands for before exploring the details.

More Intentional Information Architecture
I refined the presentation of information so that key messages and supporting content could be understood in a more natural order.

A Clear Path to Action
I considered how calls to action could fit into the visitor journey, helping people move from learning about the organization toward exploring its work and donation options.

A More Cohesive Visual Experience
The redesign aimed to create a more consistent relationship between typography, imagery, spacing, and content sections, rather than relying on the limitations of a generic template.

Designing for the Real Experience

Designing for the Real Experience
The homepage was designed with both its visual presentation and practical use in mind.
I considered how information would be perceived across different screen sizes, paying attention to legibility, content hierarchy, and the prominence of important actions.
The goal was not to introduce complexity for its own sake. It was to give the organization's story more room to communicate through a clearer and more cohesive interface.

From Design to Implementation

From Design to Implementation
This project was a collaboration between design and engineering, with each role contributing to a different part of the experience.
I handled the homepage's UI/UX redesign and visual direction. My engineering partner handled the website implementation using Next.js and the migration from the previous Wix-based setup to the new domain.
The division of responsibilities allowed me to focus on the design experience while my partner addressed the technical implementation.
The redesign remained focused on the homepage because the other pages did not require the same level of visual overhaul at that stage.

The redesigned website is live at ingaministries.org.
The project brought together a more intentional homepage design, a customized development implementation, and a domain migration in support of the organization's digital presence.
For me, it was a reminder that design and engineering do not have to be treated as separate stages. When both perspectives are considered together, the result can be more coherent from the first impression to the final implementation.
This case study documents the design and implementation work completed. Donation conversion, user engagement, and other business outcomes were not measured as part of the project.
